Beginners Weekend Bootcamp

Spend a creative weekend learning the fundamentals of silversmithing in a relaxed, beginner-friendly studio setting.

Over the course of two days, you’ll explore a variety of traditional silversmithing techniques while creating several handmade sterling silver pieces. This workshop is designed for beginners or those with some previous experience who want a deeper, more immersive introduction to silversmithing than a single class can offer. Space is limited to 6 students.

Course curriculum:

Saturday Morning: Silver Necklace

Begin with a silver necklace project while learning how to saw, shape, file, and finish sterling silver.

Saturday Afternoon: Wide Silver Ring

Create a wide silver ring while exploring texture techniques, including hammering, rolling mill textures, and reticulation.

Sunday Morning: Cabochon Stone Setting

Learn how to set a cabochon stone and turn it into a finished necklace.

Sunday Afternoon: Independent Project

You’ll use the skills developed throughout the weekend, including sawing, soldering, texturing, stone setting, and finishing to create your own design. Lots of ideas and options will be shared - you can choose from a selection of projects or bring your own ideas.

All tools, instruction, refreshments, and snacks are included.

Please note: lunch is not included. Bring your own or head out to one of our many Qualicum lunch spots. Sterling silver is also not included and will be purchased separately during the workshop based on your chosen projects. Most students can expect silver costs to range from approximately $100–$150.
